Evaluation

First and foremost, it was a fascinating unit to be a part of. I learnt to be self-sufficient in my career, particularly when it came to video creation. We began by creating our own reputations by publishing a weekly post on our blogs, which eventually led us to our major initiative. The blogs I wrote were about different aspects in Journalism such as sports, media and eventually the places of interest that I was going to include in my project.

We were given the option of making a work of our own design, which is unique because it allows us to better express ourselves and demonstrate our abilities. This year, I intended to create a feature about the lovely island of Gozo. I think highlighting the beauty of this small island was a very good idea. Last year intially I was planning to produce a feature related about football but due to the covid pandemic I was short of ideas and produced a recipe video, where in the end it wasn't appealing to the viewer. So this year I wanted to create something original and give a different element by bringing out the beauty of the island.

My greatest strength was that the shots and other elements I had in mind were filmed exactly how I wanted them to be, something that I was very happy about. Also , I planned before the places that I wanted to film at, which I applied them in my feature. My biggest weakness, on the other hand, was the shaking and background noise during the interview, as there were some people talking loudly in the background, which affected the interview's voice. Camera shots/angles and better planning are some of the improvements that I would do in the future.

Filming, I believe, is the area that need the most work. Next time, the filming will need to be better in order to keep the audience interested in watching the feature until the end, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that this does not happen again. The most valuable lesson I took away from this unit was how to manage your own work and how to use time management to generate a solid end output. Overall, I'm happy with my work and hope to improve it next time.
